After a few hours of toying around I settled on this shape. I found 3 main stems that could have maid their own trees themselves so I decided to keep two and turn the third one in the middle into dead wood. I was surprised by how much torque the branches could take without breaking but they also did not hold shape very well with the wire. The leaves of a juniper are so prickly it made working on this one more difficult than I expected and the branches can be trained nicely but the leaves have a mind of their own. All in all I'm proud of myself for finding a shape and making a bonsai looking tree, looking back I think I should have saved more branches and shortened all of them just to make the tree look fuller.
Picked up this juniper at my local nursery for a little challenge for myself. Most bonsai I do are from seed so I can change it's growth pattern early, I've never purchased or found and older tree and stylized it into a bonsai. So that's exactly what I challenged myself to do.
While making this bonsai I made a little tiktok to show the process go check it out!
